80% of HIV patients in Ghana are Christians – AIDS Commission

About 80% of Ghanaians living with HIV are Christians, according to Ghana AIDS Commission.
Speaking at an event to mark the World AIDS day in Ghana, Olivia Graham, a technical coordinator for the AIDS Commission said churches have to create awareness amongst their congregants and also urge them to do voluntary testing and anti-retroviral use.
“ Statistics show that 80% of persons living with HIV in Ghana go to church, therefore, the AIDS commission seeks to strengthen its partnership with the church and encourage the church to use its pulpit to mobilize its members to test for HIV,” she said.
The Ashanti Region has the highest prevalence rate in the country. The AIDS Commission is looking to ensure the standard model of care is used in all health facilities. The AIDS Commission says it wants to expand preventive treatment and other care services.
The Commission also has a target to expand preventive, treatment and other care services accessible at a faster pace in its bid not to leave anyone behind.
